Picture Night and Important Community Meeting
by posted 03/17/2019

Hello Westchester Little League Families,

See below for two important events taking place next Monday night, March 18th

TEAM PICTURES

Team pictures will take place at St. Bernard’s High School
9100 Falmouth Ave.
Playa Del Rey, CA 90293

You may enter the school off of 92nd St. and park in the front lot. Pictures will take place in the Student Union, which is directly ahead when you drive into the gates, up the steps near the statue.

Players should arrive in full uniform.

If they haven’t already, your Team Information Coordinators or Managers should be handing out the picture order forms this week. Please note, you only need to fill out an order form and bring it with payment on picture night if you are ordering something more than the basic package that is included in your league fees. The basic package that all players will automatically receive includes:

(1) 3.5x5 Individual Photo
(1) 5x7 Team Photo
(1) Cardboard Frame
(1) 3" Button
(4) Wallet Size Photos

The digital image is a great purchase so you can send it to friends and family. Also, the photographer offers buddy shots. It allows for siblings or best friends to have a photo together.

Below is the team picture schedule for the evening. Coaches and players should plan to arrive about 15 minutes before their team’s scheduled time to line up. We need to squeeze in 21 teams and cannot wait for missing players or coaches. Players should arrive in full uniform, and coaches should wear their team hats.

LAX NORTHSIDE OPEN SPACE & RECREATIONAL FACILITIES OPEN HOUSE

On Monday night, there is also a very important community Open House happening at Otis College of Art & Design regarding the plans for the LAX Northside Open Space & Recreational Facility. The Youth Foundation, which currently runs the fields at Neilsen for Baseball, Softball and AYSO, has been given the opportunity to change the future of field usage at Neilsen.

Part of the LAX Northside Open Space & Recreational Facility (the west side) is currently under way, but the rest of the project is in the developmental stage and this is where we, as a league, can have an impact. What the youth foundation is proposing is that the entire development include 3 full size soccer fields.  It should also include a dog park, playground area, public art and other attractions that you would find in an outdoor space.  The thought is that AYSO would no longer need the entire use of Nielsen Park during their 6 month allotted time, thus allowing baseball/ softball to keep our fences up year around.  We would now have a year round facility to host WLL Fall Ball, clinics, training, and other events. During this time the west end of Nielsen could be rented out to AYSO for practice space or another entity if the youth foundation decides.  Fees would have to be adjusted.

The only way to accomplish this is to let our voices be heard at the Open House next week, from 6:30-8:30pm. We need as many families from WLL to attend and voice your support of this plan.  If our end goal is to have year round usage of our fields for baseball, this is the way to accomplish it and we must fight for the development of 3 full size soccer fields to become the neighborhood home of AYSO.

PLEASE stop by the Open House on your way to or from team pictures to support this plan! Your kids will be in full uniform and will make quite the impression! This could mean a very exciting future for WLL, WDRLL and AYSO Region 7, so as a community, let’s let them know we support the Youth Foundation’s proposal! Please see the attached flyer for the Open House details.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
